  • Napoleon Invasion

    June 1812 was the start of the Napoleon Invasion, Napoleon already had control of much of Europe and was hoping to add Russia to it as well. After months of battles Napoleon still wasn't able to gain control of Russia.
  • Russian Revolution

    The Russian Revolution was important because it marked the beginning of a new era. The empire of Tsar Nicholas II had just collapsed and and Marxian socialism under Vladimir Lenin was taking its place
  • Population

    Starting in the 1980's the Soviet Union started to see a big decrease in birth rates due to the fall of the Soviet Union as well as women's concerns about children's futures.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev

    Mikhail Gorbachev became the final leader of the Soviet Union, he introduced and set out the ideas of glasnost and perestroika which basically caused the Soviet Union to start falling apart.
  • Nuclear Plants

    A horrible disaster occurred in 1986 at one of the poorly constructed and maintaining nuclear plants in Chernobyl causing 30 people to die due to acute radiation poisoning.
  • Gorbachev Resigns

    After seeing that his plans failed to work and he couldn't maintain control, Gorbachev resigned leaving the Soviet Union to fail.
  • Fall of the Soviet Union

    By this time the Soviet Union ceased to exist leaving all 15 countries to develop economies, government systems, and settle territorial disputes.
  • Prices

    In Jan. 1992 the Russian government removed he price controls that had ben set by the Soviet Union, causing prices to increase a lot to the point where many families couldn't afford items.
  • Fight for Independence and Territory

    After the the fall of the Soviet Union many countries got involved in wars especially when trying to settle territorial disputes. The first war occurred in 1994 when Russian forces invaded Chechnya territory hoping to gain control.
  • Chechnya continues to fight

    In 1995 the Russians had already gained control of most of Chechnya territory but count keep it for long after some Chechnya rebel fighters crashed their party.
  • Wars Over

    In 1996 the Russians finally agreed to a peace agreement in order to end the first war.
  • Just Kidding We're Back

    In response to certain bombings that occurred in Moscow, believed to have been done by Chechnya terrorist groups, Russians invaded and gained control once again in 2001, killing over 100,000 people.
  • Reforming the Economy

    7 large federal districts were set out by the new Russian president Vladimir Putin to gain control of the regional territories whose leaders were refusing to support the central government.
  • Economic Growth Trends

    Starting in 2004, Russia started to see a slowing trend in its economic growth indicating that it needed to improve its manufacturing industry.
  • Plans to Increase Population

    In 2006, President Putan asked parliament to come up with plans to increase the birth rates in Russia. They came up with several programs that encouraged women to have more babies by rewarding them with cash, cars, refrigerators, etc. by doing so.
