Romeo and Juliet timeline

  • The fight

    The Montagues and Capulets fight in the streets and are broken up by Prince Escalus.
    Romeo is sad because Rosaline rejected him.
  • The prince said so!

    Lord Capulet and Paris talk about arranging a marriage for Juliet.
    Romeo and Benvolio find out that Rosaline has been invited to a party at the Capulet's house. Benvolio thinks they should crash the party so that Romeo can see Juliet.
  • The arranged marrage.

    Lady Capulet tells Juliet that Paris wants to marry her.
  • The arrivment.

    Romeo and friends arrive at the Capulet house.
  • Love at first sight!

    Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time at the party and fall in love.
    Tybalt is mad that Romeo came to the party.

    Romeo looks for Juliet after they split.

    Tybalt kills Mercutio, so Romeo kills Tybalt.

    Juliet wants it to be night time so that Romeo will be able to come and see her.

    Romeo leaves to go to Mantua after spending the night with Juliet.
    Juliet is told that she must marry Paris on Thursday morning - or else.

    Paris talks to Friar Laurence about the wedding.
    Juliet goes to Friar Laurence, and he suggests a plan that she take a drug that will make her look dead so that she can sneak away with Romeo.
    Friar Laurence sends Friar John to Mantua with a message for Romeo.
  • Pretending.

    Lord Capulet is arranging a big wedding celebration.
    Juliet comes back from seeing Friar Laurence and pretends to be happy to marry Paris.
  • The drug

    Juliet drinks the drug that makes her look dead.
  • Watching over.

    Lord Capulet watches the wedding preparations during the night. Paris arrives very early in the morning.
  • She is "dead"!

    The Capulets find that Juliet is "dead".
  • Taking after Juliet.

    In Mantua, Romeo learns from Balthasar that Juliet is dead.
    Romeo buys poison from the Apothecary to kill himself.
  • The undelivered message.

    Friar Laurence learns that Friar John wasn't able to deliver the message to Romeo.
    Friar Laurence writes another letter to Romeo and leaves for the crypt to meet Juliet when she wakes up from the drug.
  • The end of it all.

    Paris and a servant arrive at Juliet's tomb.
    Romeo and Balthasar arrive. Romeo gives Balthasar a letter (his suicide note) and sends him away.
    Paris confronts Romeo, and Romeo kills him. The servant goes to summon the watchmen. Romeo kills himself.
    Friar Laurence arrives and meets Balthasar. Friar Laurence finds the bodies.
    Juliet wakes up, and Friar Laurence tries to get her to leave. She refuses, and he flees when he hears the watchmen coming. Juliet kills herself. The fued is over.
