Bob was born in Texas in 1925 As a boy, he imagined that he would grow up to be a minister.

Bob's career started out pushing a broom in a NYC art gallery. The gallery owner started to display his work and Bob's career took off.

After a long torured relationship with the artist Jasper Johns, Johns left NYC and bought a residence on a private island. The following year, in 1967, Rauschenberg bought his first residence on Captiva. Gradually, over years, the estate grew to include 35 acres including several art studios and Ding Darling's fish house.

Rauschenberg died in his beloved home on Captiva on May 12, 2008. He had been ill for several years but worked with his studio artists up until the end of his life.
