    The French and Indian war was a war between Great Britain and France which established Britain's control over America. This gained lots of American territories but also massive debt a d taxes leading to colonial resentment. This was in response to the overlapping territory and economic competition between Britain and France in the Ohio River Valley.

    The proclamation of 1763 was a British decree that forbade the colonists from going west of the Appalachians to settle. It was to prevent conflict with the Native Americans and to avoid costly wars. This was in response to the French and Indian war. The British did this to avoid war with the Native Americans and maintain greater control of the colonial expansion.

    The stamp act took place in 1765 and was a direct tax on Americans on requiring a tax stamp on all paper goods. This was to raise money for the British army that was still in the colonies after the French and Indian war. This was in response to the financial burden of the French and Indian war. It was to help fund the war and the quartering troops.

    The quartering act is when the British made a law that required American colonists to house soldiers. But also provide them with supplies, this angered the colonists. This was in response to the French and Indian war, because they needed to provide living space for the military in their new acquired territories.

    The Townshend acts were a series of acts that put tax on all goods imported into the American Colonies. Such as glass, lead, paint, paper and tea. This caused the colonists to boycott and protest which increased tensions. This was in response to the French and Indian war to pay off the war debt but also from the repealed stamp act to establish authority over the colonist.

    The Boston massacre was when the British fired on the hostile colonists. This killed 5 colonists, this was fueled by the tensions over British taxation and army presence.Eventually a colonist threw a snowball at a British causing them to fire. This event violated the colonists' right to person security and protection against a army during peace time.

    The Intolerable Acts took place in 1774 and was a series of British laws to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea party. The key parts of this was to shut down the Boston harbor and curtailed self government. This was to isolate Massachusetts as a punishment. This was in response to the Boston Tea party.

    The Boston Tea Party was a protest in 1773.This protest was the Sons of liberty against the British. The American colonists disguised themselves as Native Americans and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. This protest was in response to taxation without representation. The colonists were upset the British were placing tax on things without consulting the Americans. This protest was in response to the tea act. Which was a tax on all the tea that the British placed against the colonists.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress

    The first continental congress was in Philadelphia. Delegates from 12 out of 13 colonies met united response to the coercive acts. This was a great step towards colonial unity. This was in response to the intolerable acts and what they were going to do with the British moving forward.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence

    The declaration of independence was a summary of the colonists' motivations. It stated that all people are created equally and have a god given right to pursuit of happiness, liberty and life. This declared the colonists were free and independent states. This was in response to many things such as, the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Intolerable acts these things all led to the revolutionary war and solidified colonial independence.
