    Proclamation of 1763
    This proclamation did not allow colonists to settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. The British government feared the conflict between colonists & Native Americans would lead to another war. They also could not afford to pay British troops to defend the western lands. Colonists were enraged by this proclamation beacause they felt they had won the right to settle in the Ohio River Valley after winning the French & Indian War.

    All documents & contracts must have a stamp. The stamp on any document shows that a tax has been paid.

    The Quartering act ordered the local governments to provide housing for British soilders. They had to provide food for them.

    Parliament passes Townshend acts in 1767. It places taxes on glass, paint, lead, tea & other goods.
  • Tea act ; Boston tea party

    Parliament passes The Tea act in 1773. It gave Britain control over American Tea Trade. Colonial shippers & merchants got angry. The Sons of Liberty organized the Boston Tea Party. On December 16,1773, men disguised as Native Americans & aboarded 3 tea ships. They dumped 342 chests of tea.
  • Lexington & Concord

    April 19,1775, 700 British troops reach Lexington & are met with 70 militiamen. British soilders march to Concord & destroy supplies. British troops fight militiamen & minutemen at Concord & they are forced to retreat.
  • Olive Branch

    in 1765 the Olive Branch petition was adopted by the Continental Congress. This document asked the king to restore harmony between Britain & the colonies.
  • Declaration of Independance

    July 4, 1776, Continental Congress adopted The Declaration of Independance. It allows people to have rights & the governon cannot take away their rights.
