    Defeat in New York
    Under the command of brothers William and Richard Howe the British militia had taken over the ports of N.Y. after defeating ill-prepared patriot troops.
  • The Battle of Trenton

    The Battle of Trenton
    Washington sailed across the Delaware river, leading 2400 troops to evict the British from Trenton, New Jersey. Just over a week later the took back Princton.
  • Fighting for Philidelphia

    Fighting for Philidelphia
    General Howe had gone to take over the capital, Philidelphia, in which he succeeded.
  • Victory at Saratoga

    Victory at Saratoga
    Due to lack there of communication on the British end, and a superior amount of communication on the part of the patriots General Burgoyne had failed to take over Saratoga, due to the Patriots banding together and General Howe going to take over Philidelphia as opposed to meeting him halfway.
  • Valley Forge

    During the Winter While the British occupied Philidelphia , Washington's troops were setteled in their camp at valley forge. This is considered the ultimate low point for Gorge and his troops.

    Because of the victory at Saratoga, the French began to see promise in the Patriot force, they then signed an agreement stating that they would recieve French aid in their fight for independence.

    In late 1778 the British had taken hold of Savannah, Georgia. This is considered their greatest victory in the war.

    Friederich von Stueben had decided to join the patriot forces and provided training for the colonists.
    Marquie de Lafyette offered his assitance with French Reinforcement in the month of February. He later had command in VIrginia towards the end of the war.

    Due to their underestimation of Americans, the British faced multiple losses, including Trenton, as well as Saratoga.

    Greene had requested help from Lafyette in orer for the southern fights to go over more smoothly (the souther colonies had contained more colonists than the nother ones, therefor colonial help would be practically non existant.)

    Due to inflation cause by the war, people were given bonds, a goverments form of an I.O.U. However, later in the year thanks to the major efforst put forth by Morris and Solomon. Morris being superintendant of finance and solomon an associate of his, they had managed to give payment where payment was due.
  • Yorktown

    In their aliience with the french the army had outnumbered the British 2 to 1. on the 19th the French Generals and Washington had accepted British surrender.
  • Peace in Paris

    The want for peace after years of war was in high demand. So, in order to obtain such the U.S., U.K. Spain and France had all joined together to negotiate terms for peace. The document became know as the Treaty of Paris and was signed in Septmeber on 1783.
  • A new Country

    The ideals of the 1780's and their past experiences were major contributings factors of the countries laws and treatment of citizens. However, because of belief in superiority these perks only applied to white males.
    By 1804 many northern states had outlawed slavery, starting the long road of Liberation.
