    The Bureau encourgeed former slaves to find jobs.
    The Bureau taught former slaves how to read and write,so they can do better for themselves.

    End of Civil War
    A fought from 1861 to 1865 between the Norh and South.
    General Lee surrender on April 7.on April 9 they agrred to the terms of surrender.
    General lee surrender caused the war to end.
  • Abraham Lincoln Assassinated

    Abraham Lincoln Assassinated
    Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth while watching the play "Our American Cousin".
    Its important because Abraham Lincon was the 16th presdient.
    Abraham Lincoln was the first presdient to be assassinatied.
  • 13th Amendment Ratified

    13th Amendment Ratified
    It offically ended slavery.
    It was ratified eight months after the war.
    they passed the admendment in April 1864
  • 14th Admendment Ratified

    The 14th admendment granted citizenship to former slaves.
    The Southern states refused to ratifie the admendment except Tennessee.
    Before the Southern states could join the union again they had to ratifie the admendment.

    It ensured the right to vote to all male citzens in the United States.
    Many women thought it was wrong when the males were only allowed to vote.
    It also began to take taxes for public school

    Georgia was the last southern state to be readmitted into the union.
    It was expelled because Georgia refused to ratifed the 15th admendment.
    Georgia was under military rule.

    He ran for poltical office from Macon.
    He was elected to the Georgia legislature.
    He was also active with the Republican Party.

    Ohio Republicans thought he would be a good canitdate for the 1876 election.
    The election was mostly a dissapointment to the republicans.
    He won the election by 2,983 votes of 484,603 votes cast.
