  • Slavery Comes to North America

    Slavery began when the first African Americans were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia, to aid in the production of lucrative crops like tobacco.
  • Slavery slowly comes to an end

    Slavery is made illegal in the Northwest Territory. The U.S Constitution states that Congress many not ban the slave trade until 1808.
  • The KKK

    The Ku Klux Klan is formed in Tennessee by ex-confederates. It was created after the civil war, meant to reconstruct the South. They have advocated extremist reactionary currents such as white supremacy, white nationalism, anti-immigration, and so much more.
  • The Civil Right Movement

    The Civil Rights Movement was a mass protest movement against racial segregation and discrimination in the southern United States led by Martin Luther Kind Jr.
  • President Barack Obama

    Barack Obama was the very first African American elected president in the history of the United States.
  • Black Lives Matter

    The Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement, originating in the African American community, that campaigns against violence and perceived systemic racism toward black people. Although this movement began in 2013, it is still currently in effect.
  • Ferguson Shooting

    Michael Brown, an unarmed 18 year old, was shot and killed in Ferguson, Mo by Darren Wilson, a white police officer who was not indicted by the grand jury. This sparked protests in cities across the U.S and encouraged the black lives matter movement.
