    "Plump as a partridge", The Duke of Kent described his newborn daughter, by the name of Princess Victoria. Princess Victoria was born in Kensington Palace in London, England, United Kingdom on May 24, 1819. The princess was christened in a small ceremony. It soon became clear that Queen Victoria would indeed access the throne. This event is significant because she would now go on to be the queen of Britain, on the throne for the next 60 successful years.(Ellie Cawthorne)

    Greece proclaims independence from Turkey
    In 1822, the greeks finally proclaim independence from turkey. Before they were independent, they had been under Ottoman rule since the mid 1400's. In 1821, Greeks from the peloponnese peninsula had rebelled, hearing the news of an uprising Moldavia. Around April, the revolt of the greeks spread northward towards the Athens. Finally in 1822, the Greeks captured the coastal region. This is significant because the Greeks would now be independent from the turks and the ottoman empire.(Frank Smitha)

    In 1833, the slavery abolition bill was passed by the house of lords and the house of commons. The law of England did not look at anyone as being a "slave", however slavery would be present in many British colonies. The slavery abolition bill had became a law on August 29, 1833. Followed by being forced on August 1, 1834. Slavery was finally abolished for good.     Queen Victoria was announced Queen on June 20, 1837. Sadly she woke up to the devastating news of her uncle's death that same day. Victoria was only 18 when she proceeded to the throne. Wanting to escape Sir John Conroy and her mother, she moved out of her childhood home into Buckingham Palace, so she could live without being controlled.     During the Bedchamber Crisis on January 1, 1839, Victoria got herself in to trouble for trying to get into political problems. Victoria's friend Melbourne, had appointed many of her ladies-in-waiting. In 1839, Melbourne resigned, Tory Peel had took his place. He asked for Victoria to remove some of her household but she had not.This is significant because Prince Albert was able to Make her household resign as well as getting closer with Queen Victoria at the same time.     On 1839, the first Opium war was fought between Britain and China. The opium wars came about with China's attempt to the opium trade. British traders had been illegally exporting opium from India to china. British warships started to destroy Chinese blockade. Peace negotiations started to proceed quickly.     On February 10, 1840 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert got married. At first the people of Britain were not to fond of him. As time went on people started to like him more. During their marriage, they would have fights due to their very different personalities. Even though the couple would get in some fights, they were happily married and loved each other very much.This is significant because Prince Albert would now be her best ally and help her through many political problems.(Biography.com)

    Immediately 6 weeks after Prince Albert and Queen Victoria got married, she already had signs of pregnancy. Queen Victoria was not very fond of babies as she also had called them "nasty objects". Her thoughts had soon changed after the birth of her new born princess royal on Nov 21, 1840. Eight more had suddenly squished their way into Queen Victoria's life.     On May 13, 1846, Congress voted to declare war on Mexico by President James Polk. When the war had ended in 1848, Mexico had lost more than half of its territory. Mexico began to cede New Mexico and California into the United States. To return to the ceding of Mexico, the United States 373$ million back to Mexico. This event is significant because it shows the independence ones nation should have, and to always pay back to the people you take from. It also taught congress a lesson.(Andrew Glass)

    On October 24, 1853 The crimean war began. Years leading up to the war, Britain and Russia wanted Middle East influence. There were also many religious differences. Access to holy sites had been a problem between France and Russia. The conflict came to a start when riots in Bethlehem appeared. The Russians finally conquer the turkish fleet at Sinope.     On April 12, 1861 the United States civil war had began. The civil war was fought between the southern and northern states, "The war between states". During the war, Abraham Lincoln was president. Mainly central power and slavery divided the states apart. One of the bloodiest battles was the battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The north states had won the war. This is significant because once the war was over the constitution was forced to free slaves for "equal protection".(civilwar.org)

    Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, passed away on December 14, 1861. Her soul mate is gone from her eyes. Albert had died from typhoid fever. His death shocked many people due to his active self in his forties. To Victoria, losing Albert is like losing a piece of herself. Prince Albert was such a big part of Queen Victoria's life.     In 1877, Queen Victoria becomes the Empress of India. The queen took interest it many imperial affairs. Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli announced her Empress of india in a move to link the " jewel in the empires crown". After Victoria pushed for this title for several years, Benjamin Disraeli finally stopped all hesitation and accepted her.     On June 20, 1887 Queen Victoria's golden jubilee took place. Years after her devastating death of her husband Prince Albert, she was eventually put back into focus in her life. Both Queen Victoria's jubilees are meant to restore her her power and reputation. These national festive's are meant to be show pleasers and crowd stoppers.     On June 22, 1897 Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee took place. The Diamond Jubilee had celebrated Queen Victoria's 60th and last year on the throne. By this time her empire had encountered one-quarter of the worlds population. From fireworks, and games, people would enjoy all across the country. This event is significant because it helped the poor to a special dinner. While at the same time in India, releasing some of its prisoners.     Sadly, On January 22, 1901 Queen Victoria had lost her life. Even though she is not on this earth, we still remember her for the many accomplishments and problems she had to face. She had been and always will be the grandmother of successful grand children, also with her children. Along with her husband Prince Albert, it was probably best for the British at the time containing his loss. This is significant because she will always be remembered for ruling the best 60 years.(Magill,2310)
