    The Bedchamber Crisis happened after Whig politician Lord Melbourne declared his intention to resign as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Young Queen Victoria, asked a former prime minister to form a new government, but he declined.She then reluctantly invited Conservative leader Robert Peel to form a government. Peel realized such a government would hold a minority in the House of Commons and would be structurally weak, possibly damaging his future political career.

    Prince Albert died of typhoid fever in 1861. Queen Victoria was on 42 at the time and was devastated by his death. As a sign or mourning the queen wore black for the rest of her life, and didn't appear in public. She slept with a plaster cast of his hand by her side.     This started what is known as Serbian Wars for Independence. These wars were fought between the Principality of Serbia and the Ottoman Empire. At the beginning of the conflict, Serbian army was poorly trained not well equipped, unlike the troops of the Ottoman Empire.     Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee was to mark the 50th anniversary of her reign. The celebration not only celebrated Queen Victoria, but also of Britain's place as a global power. She started the day by having a private breakfast with her family. She went on to Buckingham Palace where they held an enormous banquet. The following day was marked with lavish public spectacle. The queen traveled by a procession through the streets of London to Westminster Abbey. There was approximatly 10,000 guests.

    Queen Victoria dies
    After six decades on the throne, Queen Victoria health started to decline. She was diagnosed with ‘cerebral exhaustion’ and ended up dying at age 81. Her oldest son, and her grandson were beside her death bed. A grand funeral was held and she was buried along side Albert in the royal mausoleum at Frogmore house. She was buried with Albert's dressing gown and a plaster cast of his hand. Her death signaled the end of an era. (“Queen Victoria Timeline")
