    Birth-12 months

    From birth to about a year old a child is learning about trust and mistrust. The child is very dependent on their caregiver.
  • Period: to

    1 year to 3 years

    From a year to three years a child is exploring and going through the "me do it" stage. The "me do it" stage is where a child is doing things on their own. During this stage of life, a child also begins to develop preferences.

    3 years to 6 years

    From 3 years to 6 years of age a child is learning about guilt versus initiative.

    6 years to 12 years

    During adolescence a child is learning about inferiority and industry. A child also begins to compare themselves to others.

    12 years to 18 years

    From 12 years to 18 years a person begins to learning about their identity versus role confusion. During emerging adulthood a person begins to ask themselves "Who am I?" and "What do I want to do?"
  • Period: to

    18 years to 40 years

    Through adulthood a person learns intimacy versus isolation. During adulthood a person needs to stay social or be on the "intimate" side in order to stay psychologically healthy. People who stick on the "isolation" side could experience depression.

    40 years to Mid-60s

    Generativity versus stagnation is what a person must balance during their middle ages

    Mid-60s to Death

    In late adulthood a person learns integrity versus despair. At this stage in life a person needs to focus on the better things in life, until they pass on.
