PSY Child Development: Baby Edwin

  • Birth of Baby Edwin (chapter 9 pg 91, 96, 97)

Birth of Baby Edwin (chapter 9 pg 91, 96, 97)
Baby Edwin was born today! He was an easy labor. I had a natural vaginal birth at a midwifery. I did not want to have him at a hospital and I did not receive an epidural. The reason he was so easy is because he was a day from his due date meaning I did not have the complications of a postmature delivery or a premature delivery. Labor only took a few hours of contractions and then a bit of pushing at the end. I was not a victim of post partum depression! Edwin brought a lot of joy to my world.
  • Baby Edwin's teething (Pearson Page 277)

Baby Edwin's teething (Pearson Page 277)
Edwin has been getting a few teeth. I can tell he is in pain because he cries and wants to chew on EVERYTHING. The other day I was holding him and he started chewing on my vest's zipper! What he doesn't know is that after all the pain he has to go through with these teeth coming, he is going to have to go through it all again when he's in middle childhood when his adult teeth replace his primary teeth. OUCHY!
  • Edwin is 12 months (1 year) old! (Chapter 7, Pg 175 Self-Aware)

    Edwin is 12 months (1 year) old! (Chapter 7, Pg 175 Self-Aware)
This past month Edwin has been really into himself. When I say this I mean his has become very self-aware. I put him in front of a mirror after he had eaten and had food all over his face. He was amused by his appearance and tried wiping it off. He was aware of his physical characteristics. (Chapter 7, Pg 175 Self-Aware)
  • Edwin is 18 months old (and smiling!) (Chapter 7, pg 173: Social-smiling)

Edwin is 18 months old (and smiling!) (Chapter 7, pg 173: Social-smiling)
Today, Edwin smiled at his daddy when he got home. I have noticed that he has different reactions to different people. For instance, my brother tries to get Edwin to smile and giggle but it never seems to work. When Edwin's grandma tries he lights right up. He is starting to social-smile. He is directing his smiles towards people who are around him most. Me, his dad and my mom (who babysits frequently) receive the most smiles! (Chapter 7, pg 173: Social-smiling)
  • Baby Edwin is Growing up! 10 Years old today! (Pearson Page 277)

Baby Edwin is Growing up! 10 Years old today! (Pearson Page 277)
Here is a recap on baby Edwin's past few years! He has started 4th grade last week and has joined soccer. He is a little bit shorter than some of the girls in his class at a whopping 4' 8" (close to the average of most 11 years olds of 4' 9.5"). His gym teacher was telling me that he is always keeping up in class and is able to do 5 pull ups! His teacher was saying that 40% of kids his age can't even do a single pullup. Maybe soccer is doing him some good.
  • 16 and Driving! (Pearson Page 358)

16 and Driving! (Pearson Page 358)
Edwin got his drivers license today! He was really excited he passed on the first try. He is now able to drive himself to soccer practice meaning I no longer need to. Edwin has really been excelling in soccer. My theory is that he matured early and has a step up on other players. Peason Textbook says that kids who mature early tend to do better in athletics. This might just be the case! He has grow nearly a foot since he was 10 years old and is now 5' 10" tall and I am sure he is not done growin
  • Caught Edwin Smoking! (PEarson Page 370)

Caught Edwin Smoking! (PEarson Page 370)
Today I went to look for Edwin to help me open a jar and found him out back smoking a cig! He is 17 years old and should not be smoking. Smoking is highly addicting! Althought the numbers of kid smoking has been decreasing, I still find my son smoking! How upsetting. I made him throw it away and told him if I caught him again he would be in big trouble!
  • My baby is all grown up! 18th Birthday Today! (Pearson Page 418)

My baby is all grown up! 18th Birthday Today! (Pearson Page 418)
Finally after 18 years my baby boy Edwin has grown into a smart young man. He will be graduating in 2033 after his senior year. Edwin wanted an Iphone 10 for his birthday. When I was younger I had the Iphone 5! There is such a generation gap. He and I have been butting heads lately on topics, beliefs and even values. I told him he needs to go to college and he said that the times have changed and not everyone needs to go to college after graduation. We shall see!
