Although Lincoln used speeches to communicate with the people like George Washington, he differs from Washington due to his introduction of telegrams to presidential communication which enabled more frequent communication.

Although he is similar to Lincoln in their use of new technology to reach larger audiences, McKinley differs for his use of visual communication rather than electronically delivered messages.

Roosevelt took advantage of the rise of newspapers to gain popularity by using catchy slogans. This differs from McKinley because although both took advantage of trends to gain larger audiences, Roosevelt gave more direct and less humble communication. Rather than being soft-spoken, Roosevelt was bold, confident, and loud in his messages.

FDR used radio through his fireside chats. He made this radio addresses personal in order to connect more with the American people. For that reason, he differs from Teddy Roosevelt whose communication with the people was more direct and political rather than FDR's communication which strove to show himself as the average American.

JFK was the first president to fully use TV to his advantage. He used televised debates to display his poise and charisma which leaned the public in his favor over the aging Nixon. He also televised his press conferences. This use of communication is very similar to FDR's use of radio. However, the addition of a visual component made it easier for JFK to connect with his audience.

Bill Clinton was the first president to send and email. He was also known for his multiple TV appearances for both political and entertainment purposes. Clinton's appearances on TV differ from JFK due to their less formal nature and not exclusively using TV appearances for political purposes.

Obama was the first president to use twitter. However, his use of it was very limited and he did not have direct control over his account. His introduction of the internet as a way to communicate with the people differs from Clinton who mainly used TV and radio to communicate with the people. In this way, Obama was able to become closer connected to the people due to how easily and instantaneously messages can be delivered on the internet.

Trump significantly ramped up the use of twitter. He would send multiple tweets a day without significant oversight. His activity on Twitter was enough to get him temporarily suspended. This differs from Obama because although both used twitter, Trump was given much more free reign over his use of twitter and was much more personal in his use of it.
