Pregnancy Timeline

  • Month 1

    Month 1

    ~Internal organs and circulatory system begin to form.
    ~The heart begins to beat.
  • Month 2

    ~Face, eyes, ears, and limbs take shape.
    ~Bones begin to form.
  • Month 3

    Month 3
    ~The baby size is about 1 inch (25 mm) long as the month begins.
    ~Nostrils, mouth, lips, and eyelids form.
    ~Buds for all 24 baby teeth start to appear.
    ~Fingers and toes are almost completed.
    ~All organs are present but still are immature.
  • Month 4

    Month 4
    ~The size of the baby is about 3 inches (7.6 cm) long, weighs 1 ounce (28 g) as the month begins.
    ~Can suck its thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around.
    ~Facial features become clearer.
  • Month 5

    Month 5
    ~The size of the baby is about 6 1/2- 7 inches (16-18 cm) long, weighs about 4-5 ounces (113-142 g) as the month begins.
    ~Hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear.
    ~Teeth continue to develop.
    ~ogans are maturing.
    ~Baby becomes more active.
  • Month 6

    ~The size of the baby is about 8-10 inches (21-25 cm) long, weighs about 8-12 ounces (227-340 g) as the month begins.
    ~Fat deposits under the skin, but fetus appears wrinkled.
    ~Breathing movements begin.
  • Month 7

    Month 7
    ~The size of the baby is about 10-12 inches (25-31 cm) long, weighs about 1 1/2-2 pounds (680-907 g) as the month begins.
    ~Has periods of activity followed by periods of rest and quiet.
  • Month 8

    Month 8
    ~The size of the baby is about 14-16 inches (36-41 cm) long, weighs about 2 1/2 -3 pounds (1.0-1.4 kg) as the month begins

    ~May react to loud noises with a reflex jerking action.
    ~Moves into head down position.
  • Month 9

    Month 9
    ~The size of the baby is about 17-18 inches (43-46 cm) long, weighs about 5-6 pounds (2.3-2.7 kg) as the month begins.
    ~Weight gain continues.
    ~Skin becomes smooth as fat deposits continue.
    ~Movements decrease as the fetus has less room to move around.
    ~Acquires disease-fighting antibodies from the monther's blood.
    ~Descreds into pelvis, ready for birth.
