The Anti-Poll tax Unions was set up.
These were local groups that organised protests and gave out informtion to support those not regisering or not paying the poll tax. They produced leaflets, posters, t-shirts, mugs and badges. -

The ABAPTF called a national demonstrtionin Trafalgar square in 1990. 200,000 protesters turn up.
The calm protest changed to a riot later in the day and 341 people were arrested, 542 police officers were injured, no official record of how many injured protesters were injured but the number was in the thousands. -
Thatcher was replaced by John Major as Prime Minister.

John Major annouced that the Poll tax would be replaced by the Concil Tax in 1993. Protests continued untill 1993 when the poll tax changed.
