  • Exposition

    Exposition
    In the beginning of the story Paul Edgecombe is the main character and narrator of this story. Paul is in a retirement home and is writing about his years of working on the "Green Mile". He worked in the State Penitentiary's, Cold Mountain, death row.area. At Cold Mountain the electric chair is referred to as "Old Sparky" and death row is referred to as the Green Mile.
  • Conflict

    Conflict
    There are two conflicts. The first one is Character vs. Society. John Coffey is given unfair treatment for being black and is being punished for a crime he didn't do. The whole town sees him as an evil person. The second conflict is Character vs. Character. Paul and Percy are constantly having problems throught the entire story. Percy shows no compassion and John shows compassion towards the prisoners.
  • Rising action

    Rising action
    John Coffey is brought into the Green Mile. Paul had done some research on John and found out that he is in the Green Mile because he raped and killed two little girls. A mouse is discovered and is named Mr. Jingles. Percy stomps on him and kills him. John Coffey brings Mr. Jingles back to life. Paul has a urinary infection and Hal's wife has a brain tumor.
  • Turninig point

    Turninig point
    Paul and the guards take John to Hals house . They tell Hal that John can help his dying wife. John kisses her and takes out all of the sickness she is suffering from. The sickness leaves the wife and goes into John.Coffey. John starts coughing alot and the guards think he is dying.
  • Falling action

    Falling action
    Everyone hurries to get John back to the Green Mile. John grabs Percy and lets all of the sickness from Hal Moores' wife into Percy. Percy isn't his self and grabs his gun and shoots Wharton. Paul tells John he can prove that he is innocent, but John tells him he just wants to die. He dosen't want to suffer with pain any more.
  • Resolution

    Resolution
    The guards follow through with John Coffey's execution at the Green Mile. The story then goes back to the present time. Paul's friend Elain reads what he has written. They walk to the shed at the retirement home and they find Mr. Jingles dead. The story then goes to when Paul's wife dies and he remembers how he could see John Coffey in the distance of where his wife died.
