An effort to raise money for british military forces in the colonies. The stamp act enacted by parliament in 1765 requires the revenue stamps be place on most printed paper in the colonies. The Boston massacre
A crowd of colonist provoked the guards which led to 5 people being killed from soldiers firing into the crowd. The soldiers were defended by the colonial lawyer and acquitted. This incident was called a massacre in order to inflame anti british feelings. -

This document used enlightenment ideas to justify breaking away from the british army. This document declared Americas' independence from the British crown. -
Articles of confederation
The first constitution in America which was ratified in 1781. The articles of confederation secured the states freedom. This is important because it would later lead to the appeal of the articles and the call for a new government. -
Shays rebellion
Shays rebellion sparked the repeal of the Articles of confederation. the states government increased taxes on their citizens in order to pay back the states debt. The taxes was so high the colonist couldn't pay for it and decided to rebel. -
