The minesweeper Condor spotted a submarine early in the morning. Later in the morning, the destroyer Ward shot down the sub. This submarine was one of five of the Japanese midget subs in the Pearl Harbor area. The subs were planned to be a part of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Ward's attack didn't cause a general alarm.

Two privates on duty noticed 50 or more aircraft heading towards Oahu. This was the first wave of aircraft for the attack of Pearl Harbor.

Japanese negotiators break off their talks in Washington, which is believed to be the meaning of war. General George Marshall sent a telegraph to Lt. General Walter Short in Hawaii.

Immediatley, there's order to telegraph operators to send a message to every ship and base: AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT DRILL. This is important because when first hit on Pearl Harbor, some crew members thought it was just a drill.

Dive bombers attack Air Force bases, destroying most U.S. planes. This is important for the Japanese because they then control the air, with no U.S. planes to worry about for awhile.

A bomb hits the deck of the Arizona, setting off gunpowder, creating a massive explosion, and killing 1,177 men. The Arizona sank in nine minutes.

The U.S. Helm spots a Japnese submarine and attacks; two Japanese crewmen try escaping their submarine and one man washes ashore. He then becomes the United States' first prsoner of war for WWII.

President Roosevelt was having a meeting with advisor Harry hopkins when Navy Secretary Frank Knox anounces Japan has attacked Pearl Harbor.

The second wave of Japanese fighters, dive-bombers, and high-altitude bombers attack. The second wave did just as much damage as the first, but more Japanese aircraft was shot down because they were expected.
