Abdul Sattar Edhi Early life
Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in gujrat in British India. He was 19 when his mother died. His personal experiences caused him to develop a system of services for old, mentally ill and challenged people. -

Edhi and his family migrated to Pakistan in 1947 -
Early life
He initially started as a pedlar, later became a commision agent selling cloth in the karachi. After few years, he established a free dispensary with the help from his community. He later established a welfare trust, "Edhi trust". -
Charity work
Edhi foundation runs the world`s largest ambulance services and operates free old people`s homes, orphanges, clinics, women`s shelter and rehab centers for drug addicts and mentally ill individuals. It has run relief operations in Africa, Middle East, the caucasus regions, eastern Europe and US where it provided aid following the New Orleans hurricane of 2005. -
Edhi`s Awards and Rewards
According to the official Edhi Site he has gotten hundereds oof Awards but some of those are listed here:
"Ramon Magsaysay Award" for public service from Philppines, 1986
Paul Harris Fellow: from Rotary International Foundation 1993.
Peace Prize from USSR (former) for services in the Armenian earth-quack disaster in 1988. -
Edhi orphange
Edhi Foundation is one of the most commonly used orphanages for adoption simply because they get more abandoned or orphaned children than any other organization and the wait time to get a referral is much less than others (typically three to four months.). -
Relationship and life
He married to Bilquis, a nurse who worked at he Edhi dispensary. Couple have four childrens. Two daughter and two sons. -
Acitivities
The foundation includes 24 hour emergency services acroos the country through 250 Edhi centers. Center provide free shrouding and burial of unclaimed bodies.

Edhi foundation has an anuual budget of Rs,850 million. Edhi foudnation has 300 center across Pakistan and a center each in New York, London, Toronto, Tokyo, Sydney and Dhaka. According to Guinness Book of World records Edhi foundation now has the largest volunteer ambulance service , including a fleet of 400 ambulance, one helicopter and two air ambulance. -
