  • Battle of the Philippine Sea

    Battle of the Philippine Sea
    On June 15th 1944 the American Army invaded the islands of Saipan, near the Japanese islands. The two countries fought hard during a two day air battle just off the coast of the islands. This is known today as one of the biggest carrier battles of WWII. 30,000 Japanese troops were sent off, but only 1,000 made it back alive. It soon became the national policy to commit suicide if captured by American Forces.
  • Battle of Leyte Gulf

    Battle of Leyte Gulf
    October-December 1944, General Doublas MacArther and his army resort back to the Philippines islands. He abandoned his army and swore to return. The U.S Navy and Imperial Navy had the largest navel battle in the history of warfar during this occurence. 65, 000 Japanese soldiers died and more than 15,000 Americans were killed or wounded.
  • Iwo Jima

    Iwo Jima
    February 19th 1945 the Americans lost an astounding number of troops while invading the island of Iwo Jima. The fight was once again against the Japanese defenders of 21,000 members in total. 7,000 Americans were dead and 24,000 were wounded. Of these people killed were 6,000 U.S Marines. This time the Japanese benifited with only 1,038 of the 21,000 Japenese captured alive.
  • Philippines Campaign

    Philippines Campaign
    Janurary-March 1945, U.S. army faced a large battle with the Japanese army on the main Filipino island. This island was stocked with 287,000 Japanese troops. The battle ended after 2 months. Manila was one of the worst hit cities of WWII. The Japanese navy blew up it's harbor and the U.S lost 38,000 lives. Though, the Japanese lost an overwhelming total of 400,000 lives.
  • Okinawa

    Okinawa
    April-June 1945 by this time, the European Theater war was already over. Though, this marked one of the most tradgic times for the Pacific side. The last battle took place only 350 miles from Japan. The battle lasted for 82 days. By the end of the battle more than 12,000 U.S. soldiers were dead or missing. 36,000 were wounded and 70,000 Japanese soldiers were dead.
