    Pablo Escobar was born on December 1, 1949 in Antioquia Colombia, he was the son of a school teacher and a peasant his family didn’t have much money. When he was two years old the family moved to Envigado a town bordering Medellin to the south and that remained his home for most of his life.

    Rising to power In 1957 when the Medellin cartel leader Fabio Restrepo was murder reportedly under the orders of Pablo Escobar all of Resptrepo's men now worked for Pablo. From there he took over the whole drug trade in Medellin and over time he became responsible for over 80% of cocaine that was distributed in the United States

    Pablo entered the cocaine trade in the 1970's and would buy coca paste from Bolivia and Peru. Then processes it in Colombia and then he would transport it to America to be distributed.

    When Escobar’s drug trade began to grow requiring a much larger work force he began to collaborate with other drug organizations in the area soon forming the Medellin Cartel.

    Some of Escobar’s men returning from a drug run to Ecuador in May 1976 Escobar and his men were arrested for possession of cocaine. Pablo tried to bribe the judge to drop the charges but the judge did not take the bribe and Pablo's lawyers went into a 7 month legal argument to no avail. Escobar put an end to the charges by killing the two arresting officers and that’s when the charges were dropped.

    Pablo had a fancy for very young girls and when he was 26 he feel in love with 15 year old Maria Vallejo. In order for them to marry in 1976 they had to seek approval from the local bishop. He and his wife came to have two children first a boy and then a baby girl. Even though Pablo was married he frequently engaged in affairs with mostly under aged girls.

    As time went on Pablo developed many way to make money off of cocaine trafficking. First he was responsible for setting up and the colossal success of the Colombian cocaine trade. Secondly, his involvement in the battle for the nullification of the 1979 American-Colombian Extradition treaty. For these reason he imposed a taxes on other drug dealers who distributed in his area they had to pay him a percentage of their profits.

    Pablo Escobar always did whatever he wanted and for anyone who opposed him he had no hesitation to have that person killed. His power grew and he was associated with many kidnaps and assassinations over his life time. In 1982, Escobar was elected as a deputy representative to the Chambers of Representatives of Colombian Congress as a part of Colombians liberal party. But was quickly dismissed when he was tied to smuggling and many violent acts he had participated in.

    In November 1986 Pablo was arrested once again for drug smuggling and racketeering and he used his normal tactic of violence and the charges were dropped. As this was his initial way of taking care of any opposition, he was never arrested again.

    The 1989 bombing of the Bogotá security building was down under the order of Escobar. Many American intelligence reports stated that Escobar’s cartel was planning to kill President George Bush Sr with a bomb on a visit he was going to make to Cartagena in 1989 but did not happen.

    In 1989 Pablo was named the 7th richest man in the world by Forbes Magazine with his fortune rumored to be around 24 billion dollars. He certainly loved to display his wealth and he lived an extravagant lifestyle. Pablo invested much of his money into real estate, many private helicopter ports, numerous cars, helicopters, airplanes, apartments, and banks. Escobar even paid for the support of other criminals that acted as a guerilla army that would carry out any of his violent demands

    Assignations In the early 1990's Escobar reportedly had Luis Carlos Galan and two other presidential candidates’ assonated because they were a threat to everything that Escobar upheld. A few months later Escobar had a bomb planted on an airplane a presidential candidate was traveling on and when the bomb blew up it killed 110 people two of which we American there was no survivors.

    In 1991 Escobar approached the government to make a deal. In exchange for their guarantee of not being extradited to the United States, he would willing turn himself in and serve a five year sentence in jail. The government accepted his deal; on Pablo's terms he built his own prison that was more like a luxurious resort. It was a safe place to hide from assassins and endless supplies of five star food, drugs, alcohol; prostitutes, visitors, and he continue to run his cartel from his "prison".

    The government received pressure from the public, and Colombian officials made plans to move Escobar to a real prison. On July 22, 1992 after a year of living in the prison that he built he was being transported to an actual prison and that’s when he escaped and went on the run. It took 16 months to track him down during that time he reportedly paid his hit men to kill as many men in the search block as they could resulting in 600 police officers deaths.

    In early 1993 a group formed called the Los Pepe the meaning of the name was The People Persecuted by Pablo Escobar. They were a very violent group and wanted revenge on Pablo because of everything he has done. Los Pepe attack Pablo's industry from all angles. They bombed his priorities and targeted his source of laundering by killing the most important people in the Medellin cartel, which included some of Pablo’s extended family.

    Denied In February 1993 Pablo's wife and children applied for visa to enter the United States but were denied under the orders of the president at the time. Pablo was furious that his family was not granted access to leave so his reaction was to set off a 300 pound bomb that leveled a city block and killed many innocent people.

    On December 2nd the day after Pablo's 44th birthday he was finally tracked down and cornered in one of his numerous hide outs in a town called Los Olivos. Him and his body guards attempted to escape across a roof top and were engaged in a gun fight with the Colombian search block when Pablo was wounded in the leg and chest before he received a fatal shot to the head. With his death the terror he caused in Colombia for many years came to an end.
