Where is Mr. Hirsch? (Fiction)
Kristi's woolen sweater is missing a button, so Mrs. Johansen provides Annemarie with kroner (Danish currency) to buy a new button. After school, Annemarie walks to Mr. Hirsch's button shop to discover that it's been closed! -
Peter's Visit. (Fiction)
Peter walks to the Johansen's apartment during the evening to warn them about the soldier's actions. The soldiers were planning to close all shops run by Jewish people. -
How Sad, How Proud. (Fact)
Denmark explodes the navy tankers and battleships to prevent the soldiers from taking command over the Navy. King Christian X felt very sorrowful at the sight of his Navy in smithereens, but he felt proud that he'd stopped the soldiers from taking control. -
Ellen Stays the Night.
Annemarie is told hat Ellen will be coming over to their apartment for a couple of days. She doesn't know the reason for this, but she is excited that Ellen will be staying the night. -
Synagogue Lists. (Fiction)
Annmarie's dad explains to her that the soldiers have taken a hold of the synagogue lists so that they cold arrest the Jewish people. Ellen and her family re frightened since the soldiers might come in the night to investigate -
A Long Night. (Fiction)
A group of soldiers come during the night to investigate the apartment. They are suspicious that Rosen's apartment is empty, and almost find Ellen hiding under the covers! -
The House by the Sea. (Fiction)
Fearing they will be discovered, the family escapes on a countryside railroad train to the house by the sea. -
A Death! (Fiction)
A mysterious funeral is held for Aunt Birte inside the house along with a couple of other families. Annemarie is suspicious of this as she believes Aunt Birte never existed! -
Open the Casket. (Fiction)
A group of soldiers barge into the funeral and order Mrs. Johansen to open the casket. Mrs. Johansen explains that her Aunt may still have typhus germs in her body. Then one soldier slapped her because she disobeyed him! -
Escape to Sweden!
After the soldiers leave, Mrs. Johansen reveals the real reason for the funeral, to help the Rosen's and the other families escape! She leads everyone to the boats so that they can escape. -
Where is Mama? (Fiction)
Annemarie wakes up in the morning to find her mother sprawled out on the ground, crying with pain. She brings her mother inside and is told how her mother was injured. -
Keep on Running!
Annemarie embarks on a quest to deliver something to Uncle Henrik. Her mother doesn't tell her what is inside the package, but she explains that it is very important. -
Safely Delivered.
Along the way, Annemarie is stopped by a group of soldiers, but she manages to deliver the package to Uncle Henrik. Uncle Henrik explains to her that the item is something used to block the German hounds sense of smell. -
The Resistance.
Annemarie is told that Peter is in the resistance. The resistance is a group of people who revolt against the Nazis and thwart their plans. -
Goodbye, Peter.
The Johansen family receives news that Peter Nielsen has died. They hold a funeral for him and buried him in the graveyard for young men who die during the war. -
Secrets Revealed.
Annemarie learns the secret behind her sister Lise's death. It turns out that Lise was part of the resistance and was murdered when a soldier hit her with his jeep. -

World War 2 finally comes to an end. The whole country of Denmark celebrates this important day in history.
