    The Great Depression begins in 1929 as stock market speculation in certain stocks causes many to withdraw their money out of banks in a frenzied fashion. This resulted in the collapse of many economies and financial hardship for many Americans.

    Franklin D. Roosevelt, governor of New York for many years, is elected President, amongst the hardest times of the Great Depression. His plan, the New Deal, was his vision for pulling America out of the Great Depression. He told many people that the only thing to fear was fear itself.

    Once FDR is elected, his New Deal officially begins. Many programs are started such as the REA, NRA, and the FDIC, among others, to help boost the American economy back to pre-Depression levels.
