My Sister's Keeper

  • Kate is diagnosed.

    Kate is diagnosed.
    Kate, at the age of 2, is diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia. Her mother, Sara, first notices a line of bruises down her back and takes her into the pediatrition. The doctor takes some blood and once the tests come back it shows that Kate's white blood cell count is low.
  • Sara gets the idea of creating Anna.

    Sara gets the idea of creating Anna.
    Sara proposes to Brian that they should have another baby. Brian thinks that she suggests it to replace Kate if she dies, but Sara wants the baby in order to save Kate. They would pick out all the traits for the baby so that she is a perfect match for Kate and will be able to donate anything Kate needs.
  • Anna is born.

    Anna is born.
    After picking out all of her traits, Anna is finally born on New Years. The first thing that Sara thinks about is preserving her cord blood for Kate. Even while she is in labor all she is thinking about is how Anna will save Kate. “Although I am nine months pregnant, although I have had plenty of time to dream, I have not really considered the specifics of this child. I have thought of this daughter only in terms of what she will be able to do for the daughter I already have." (Picoult 100).
  • Kate meets Taylor Ambrose.

    Kate meets Taylor Ambrose in the hospital when they are getting treatment. Kate learns that Taylor has AML, acute myeloid leukemia. They become very close and begin to date. Taylor asks Kate to the dance that the hospital hold for the teen patients.
  • Taylor Ambrose dies.

    Three days after the hospital prom, Taylo dies. Sara knows this information, but does not tell Kate for a month. Once Kate finds out she is crushed and angry at her mother for not telling her. "I don't tell Kate, not for a month. Not until the day Dr.Chance says Kate is well enough to leave the hospital, until Kate has already convinced herself she was better off without him." (Picoult 320).
  • Anna files a lawsuit against her parents.

    Anna files a lawsuit against her parents.
    Anna goes to see Campbell Alexander in order to file a petition for medical emancipation. Anna does not want to continue donating parts of her body since she has no say in the matter. She doesn't have enough money to pay Campbell, but deicdes to help her for free. "There is way too much to explain, and so I do the best I can. 'It's not God. Just my parents,' I say. 'I want to sue them for the rights to my own body.'" (Picoult 19).
  • Campbell gets a restraining order against Sara.

    Campbell gets a restraining order against Sara.
    Campbell files a restraining order against Sara for Anna so that Sara will not try to persuade Anna into giving up the lawsuit. Anna does not know about the restraining order until it is served to Sara. It was suggested before that they should not be living together, but it was decided against because Anna is only 13 and it is her mother.
  • Julia is assigned as GAL.

    Julia Romano is asssigned as Anna's guardian ad litem. She is responsible for being Anna's advocate during the legal proceedings and representing her best interests in court. Julia became a guardian ad litem a year earlier in order to pay her bills.
  • Jesse sets a shed on fire.

    Jesse sets a shed on fire.
    Jesse sets a shed on fire and he invites Duracel Dan, a homeless man he knows, to go with him. Once Jesse starts the fire and asks Dan what he thinks, Dan tells him that there was a person in there. Jesse runs in and saves the homeless man.
  • Anna dies.

    After the car accident, Anna is rushed to the hospital and to the trauma room. They gets her breathing on a respirator, but find out that she is brain dead. The doctors have nothing that they can do for her and ask if they want to donate her organs.
  • Campbell and Anna get into a car accidnet.

    On there way home from the court room, Anna and Campbell get into a severe car accident. It was raining very hard whne it happened and the two cars T-boned each other. Brian responds to the call and figures out that it is Anna.
  • Anna wins lawsuit.

    After the trial ends, Judge DeSalvo rules in favor of Anna. Judge DeSalvo feels that the person at the heart of the issue should be the one to make the decisions, and he feels that that person is Anna. He also makes Campbell the medical power of attorney to assist Anna in making future decisions.
  • Anna and Brian move into the firehouse.

    Anna and Brian move into the firehouse.
    Brian offers Anna to move into his room at the firehouse temporarily. He feels that the space would be beneficial and give the family some breathing room. Sara and Brian argue about whether it is a good idea or not, and Brian tells Sara he is worried about Anna. Sara retorts by saying she worries about both their daughters.
  • Jesse sets fire to an elementary school.

    Jesse sets fire to an elementary school.
    Brian responds to a call for a fire at an elementary school and after looking for how the fire started he finds a cigarette butt that is the same brand Jesse smokes. He goes to Jesse's apartment to look for more evidence and finds chemicals under his sink that are capable of setting a fire. Jesse confesses once his dad questions him about it.
  • Campbell has a seizure.

    While Anna is on the stand testifying, Campbell falls to the floor and begins to have a seizure. Judge, his service dog, was going crazy trying to warn Campbell, but he was too preoccupied asking Anna questions and decided to ignore the warnings. Anna was able to tell that something was wrong with Campbell since his pupils were so large and he was sweating profusely.
  • Kate recieves Anna's kidney and goes into remission

    Kate recieves Anna's kidney and goes into remission
    After the accident Anna's kidney is given to Kate. Kate then goes into remission for eight years. She is able to graduate from high school and now teaches girls to dance.
