Gary was seven years old when him and his family went on a work-vacation- getaway trip to the Phillippine Islands. There, he found Snowball. They were visiting the Phillippine Islands where they raised dogs for food. Gary had saved Snowball the moment before she was going to be used as food.

Snowball was killed that day. A millitary truck had swerved and hit her, thus causing her death.

Gary was hunting one day and had saw a big black bear, it freaked out jumping on him and started to lick him. Then, he realize it wasn't a bear, it was a dog

Ike lives in the forest and hunts with Gary.

Ike stops showing up and never comes back.

Later in life Gary finds out that Ike went back to his previous owner after the war.

Gary had found Dirk in the streets.

Dirk protected Gary from Happy and his "gang".

When Gary works at a farm he finds out that Dirk lets the farmer pet him, when he lets no one else. Dirk has found an owner.

Even though, Dirk was gone Happy and his "gang" stop targetting Gary and they even changed the paths they went to avoid Gary.

The author introduces Rex as a farm dog, for a farmer he was working for.

A few pages later the author finds out that Rex watches over the animals. When he is with the kinds he sort of takes care of them.

The author kind of slips out of Rex, with a happy ending. He is describing Rex's relation with the family as good.

Caesar got left at Gary's house by his previous owner.

Caesar doesn't eat for days, until he finally decides to eat.

With hot dogs Gary finds out that Caesar is delicate around children, even though he is destructive around adults.

Caesar dies from displaya and cancer.

Gary buys Fred in a box for 5 dollars on the street from a boy.

The author states the fred eats a lot of food. He also is starting to be friends with the pig, which is owned by the authors family.

Gary describes the war between Fred and the electric fence, which is holding pig back. After a few times jumping at the fence Fred gives up and looses the ' War '

The actual loser was Gary in the "War".

Gary trades one his dogs for Quincy. The lady wanted a Siberian Husky. Since he had one of those and he could be that good of a sled dog, he traded the husky. Just like that Quincy comes into his life.

The dog kind of becomes his wife dog in some way. The dog is mostly with her, or atleast that is the way described in the story.

There is a bear in Gary's yard and Quincy attacks the bear to save Gary's frightened wife.

Gary's wife uses the last of their luck and grabs Quincy before the bear could injurie Quincy. They went to a Vet and Quincy had no injuries.

Quincy dies of old age, but at the end he was blind and close to deaf.

Josh was introduced, because a woman was using him to herd ducks. He worked them to hard and one of them died. Just like that Josh came into Gary's life.

Gary tells how he and Josh are like real life friends. That he can read humans. For example when Gary was down Josh tried to pet his belly like Gary does to him. That he can read his expressions well.

The author tells how he and Josh used to run horses and other things. How josh would run ahead and scout and how the horses and other animals came accustom to him.
