Chapters 1-4, Pages 1-57
Clay (the main character) finds the package of audiotapes on his porch, he begins to listen to them and finds out that they are about a girl named Hannah Baker who killed herself quite recently. There are 13 tapes, one for each person who had a part of Hannah's death, and they are passed along to each person and if someone stops it a second set of tapes will be passed around to everyone. 1- exboyfriend who starts untrue rumors about when they dated (Justin) Pg57 (Pages) 1-57 -

2- Hanna's old friend Alex voted her best butt in the freshman class and everyone thought Hanna was a play toy after that. She hated it. 3-Hannah's old friend Jessica who started to blow her off for a boy this boy made a who's hot and who's not list and put Hannah and the hot said and Jessica on the not side to make Jessica mad. Jessica heard rumors that weren't true about Hannah and Jessica's ex, so Jessica punched Hannah in the face and left her.

4- Tyler who creeped on Hannah's window and took pictures of her and Hannah had a friend help her find the creep.5- Courtney who has the reputation of being perfect and nice. When she rejects Hannah she invites Hannah to a party to fix her image and trys to get boys to hit on Hannah with lies about stuff in Hannah's drawers and Hannah confronts her. Pages127 -

6 -Marcus showed up late to their Valentine's date and only wanted to be there because of the rumors about Hannah being a "bad girl." 7-Zach who was in a class called peer communicatiosn with Hannah. In the class they talked about everything in their lives and they put postive notes and anything they didn't want to say in person in each others bags . Zach took Hannah's notes because she refused a date. Hannah needed postive at this point she was almost set on suicide. (pgs) 174 -

8-Ryan Editor of the school's Lost N Found Gazette where he copies found poems, love letters, etc.They were in a poetry class together and he stole a very personal poem of Hannah's and put it in the Gazzete for people to make fun of. 9th tape-main character Clay. Hannah says he doesn't even belong on the tapes. She talks about a party they were both at where they talked and kissed because they liked each other. She shut him out when she really needed him and knew it was a mistake. pgs 227 -
Chapters 11-12 Pages 227-252
11-Justin he lets his friend in to rape his drunk girl of the night. Hanna and Justin both could have done something to stop it but they didn't especially Hanna because she was in the room having a melt down. 12-Jenny who was the girl who got raped and offered Hanna a ride home and hit a stop sign. Hanna got out of the car because she didn't trust Jenny, later that night there was a car accident there and a senior from their school who died. Hanna knew about the sign and felt awful. 252 (pgs) -
Chapters 13/14 253-280
12-Hanna is house sitting for her neighbors and there is a party nextdoor and she won't go because because of what happened at the last one. The after party Courtney and Bryce are sobering in the hot tub and she gets in, Courtney leaves them, Hanna lets Bryce ruin her reputation and she let it happen. 13-Mr.Porter- she goes to his house for advice and tries to give life one last chance but won't be open with Mr.Porter so she decides as she leaves she's done with life and he lets her go. pg280 -
Chapter 15 280-288
After tape 13 Clay is horrified because Hanna brought and adult into this (Mr.Porter). Clay mails out the tapes, when he gets to school he remebers where Hanna used to sit in class and the last thing she said to him. This makes him think about a girl Skye who was acting the way Hanna did before she died and he chases her down the hallway and saves her life I guess. These tapes were an explanation about everything that pushed Hanna over, little things that caused a big reaction with time.pg288
