The Aesthetic Movement
This design was inspired by the Japanese woodcuts and Eastern furnishings. It represented the natural and beautiful Anglo-oriental style. This style was mainly focused on interiors and object to improve the quality of life. This style was a mixture of many styles and although it had a lot of different styles there was a great amount of Japanese style in it. -

Futurism
One of the first Radical design Movements. Written and printed designs often featured Roman Numerals, typography and repeated icons. This was an italian modern art movement. The Futurism art movement included technology, modernity, speed, violence and youth. The Futurism movement all sprung off poet Filippo Marinetti’s Futurism Manifesto. The Futurism art movement, was not an art which was mainly done by paint. It included all fields of creativity, including architecture, literature, textiles. -

International style
This style was named after an exhibition in New York called the International Exhibition of Modern Architecture hald at the Museum of Modern Art in 1932. It was initially industrial and strong yet it was softened later. Hitchcock's and Johnson's aims were to define a style of the time. They identified three different principles: the expression of volume rather than mass, balance rather than preconceived symmetry and the expulsion of applied ornament. -

Application of simple, geometric design and common combinations of bright vibrant colours and solid shapes. Art Deco is a design style which originated from France, Paris and spread internationally during the 1930's, into the World War II era, The style influenced all areas of design, including architecture and interior design, industrial design, fashion and jewelry, as well as the visual arts such as painting, graphic arts and film. -

Streamlining
Streamlining is an art that is Sleek, rounded and smoothly finished. Some examples are transport ships, trains and air crafts. The finished product will always look sleek, modern and appealing. Streamlining was a late type of the Art Deco design style which started to take over during the 1930s. This style was really all about and emphisized in the rounded edges. -

Pop art was a foundation of post modernism. Materials that were used were things like disposable materials etc. Pop art is an art movement that became apparent in the mid 1950s, in Britain and in the late 1950s in the United States. This style of art was mainly aimed at the younger generation as it was fun, hip and interesting. It was all about getting a normal everyday picture and turning into something that was bright, eye catching and allerting. Pop art generally used bright colours. -

In Italy, in the second part of the 1960s, the design avant-gardes entered a new period of construction named "Radical". Postmodernism questioned the emphasis on logic, simplicity and order, suggesting ambiguity and contradiction have a place. It aims to establish emotional connection with artist. Diverse and ever changing. In general, movements such as Intermedia, Installation art, Conceptual Art and Multimedia, particularly involving video are described as postmodern. -

Memphis design is a reaction to international style. Blurred boundaries of design through highly decorative forms, bold colours and pattern. Draws on pop culture, mass produced objects, games, sci fi and media products. -
