    Dred Scott had lived in a free state as an African American. When he was moving back to Missouri, a slave state, he appealed in front of the court for his freedom. Roger Taney said that because Scott was black that he would never be a US citizen. His case brought slavery to the nation's attention.

    While Lincoln was watching a comedy with his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, he was shot from behind by John Wilkes Booth. The bullet had entered through his left ear and was lodged behind his right eye.

    McCarthy and his staff began investigating the Army for Communist infiltration. The Army accused McCarthy of seeking special treatment for a friend of his in the Army.

    Brown v Board of Education Nationa Historic SiteSegregation in schools was challenged in Kansas. It was the 12th case filed. The schools ended up winning and are now historic sites. They are Monroe Elementary and Sumner Elementary.

    Clarance Gideon was too poor to afford an attorney, and in return spent 5 years in prison. He petitioned that it was unconstitutional to not have a lawyer during trial. The supreme court ruled in his favor, and now "the right to an attorney" is stated in the Miranda Rights.

The affair was uncovered when Lewinsky transferred to the Pentagon and revealed her story to Linda Tripp, who would secretly record their conversations. He was only the second president in history to be impeached.
