    Michelle Obama visited Sub- Saharan Africa on June 20, 2011. She went with her two daughters, as well as a niece and a nephew. Obama met with the wife of Nelson Mandela as well as the wife of South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma.     On July 9, 2013, Michelle Obama hosted the annual Kid's State Dinner at her home, The White House. Fifty four kids from all across America were invited to be guests at this special lunch, after being chosen as winners of a recipe contest (Taylor). Obama is an avid suppoter of healthy eating and exercise, so a children's cooking contest is an event she would be proud to endorse (Taylor). (Hebert).

    Most recently, Michelle Obama publicly reached out, asking schools to stop promoting unhealthy foods to their students. She also reached out to brocasting companies as well as the school's food companies to help by advertising less of the junk food, and more healthy food (Superville). Obama has been campaigning for a reduction of childhood obesity since becoming the First Lady, and states that while there has been progress, there is more that can be done in schools and at home (Superville).
