  • Justin Smith Morrill/ Morrill Act of 1862

    A senator from Vermont who established the Morrill Land Grant/Act of 1862. That made federal funding for many colleges in the US.
  • Land Grant Universities in AR

    What is a land grant? An institution that is to teach agriculture, military tactics, and the mechanic arts. In hopes that the working class could attain an education.

    Ellen Richards started the first school lunch program.
  • Rumford Kitchen

    The Rumford Kitchen was the first kitchen to sell nutritious lunches that also included the nutrition​ value and cost per serving.
  • Benjamin Thompson (Count Rumford)

    Was the first to label nutrition as a science in the late 1800s. Invented the first range with temperature controls. Named the Rumford Kitchen after him.

    Eleven leaders gathered in Lake Placid, N.Y. Home Economics was established for a new study.

    Conducted two studies of immigrant and ethnic populations. Went to several Lake Placid Conferences.
