The 50s brought to us colored television, integration, and the opening of Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Sportswear for men in the 50s was restrictive. Even during trivial events, like running or lifting weights, men were still expected to wear clothing that showcased their body. With the popularization of Barbie dolls (as well as Ken) men's beauty standards were incredibly high and wearing form fitting clothing helped showcase their physique.

One small step for man...The 60s was plagued by the Vietnam War, assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and you guessed, Neil Armstrong made history by landing on the moon. As for fashion, Danny Zuko showed it best. The 60s, similarly to the 50s, was all about tight clothing. The clothing was made up of short shorts and tight muscle tees.

The decade of inflation; housing prices almost doubled in a decade, but with that came increased wages. Bell-bottoms made their first appearance in the 70s and with the boom of Nike in the 70s, clothing began to loosen up a little. However, most men still kept it short, but maybe not so sweet.

The era of the velour tracksuit, the 80s was full of puffy hair, blue eyeshadow, and arguably the best sense of style across the board. The 80s were all about neon, vibrant, comfortable clothes...Oh yeah, and men finally learned what pants were...Well, most of them. This was also the era of sweatbands and leg warmers.

The 90s grunge left no corner of fashion untouched. This era borught on layering of athletic wear. By this point, guys couldn't keep their pants above their knee caps...almost makes you miss the booty shorts of the 60s.

The 2000s workout clothing kept 90s grungy loose fit, popularizing loose basketball shorts and focusing more on tennis shoes than ever before.
