    Mens Fashion in the 1940s

Many men kept their clothing from pre-war (WWII) and would continue to wear them in the '40s. They also would take the uniforms and have them modified to wear as "everyday" clothing. So because of the war, we see a lot of military clothing and the ready-to-wear industry grew! Post-war men strived for more casual and comfortable clothing so we see short sleeve button shirts get popular. Suits were still the most common everyday outfit for business and homelife.

The fashion in this period became very diversified and men started having different fashion for all their different events. They had different styles for work, home, sporting events, and much more. Mens Fashion in the 1960s

Men's clothing during the 1960s quickly moved away from the work-oriented suits of the 1950s and towards a more relaxed, sporty lifestyle. Wider color ranges were introduced into menswear and patterns rose in popularity. Suits and pants became less straight cut - bell bottoms were introduced towards the end of the decade. Longer hair was worn by younger men, collars on shirts widened and sports shoes were worn more often in work settings.

This was the disco and age of the hippie! Men started wearing brighter colors and were more expressive with their clothing! Men started wearing plunging necklines and large gold pieces of jewelry. Platform shoes also became popular. Bellbottoms and wide-legged pants were the styles! This is when disco shirts made a rise. Disco shirts had many different colors and patterns. This was very different from anything we had really seen before.

    Mens Fashion in the '80s

Men's fashion became much more minimalistic compared to the 70s. Sports clothing, sweatshirts, t-shirts, shorts and sneakers gained widespread popularity. The warm-toned colors of the 70s were exchanged for pastels and vibrants. Layering shirts and jackets, more casual pants and t-shirts with suit jackets, and track suits were common. knits and sweaters and loose fitting denim also skyrocketed. At the same time, piercings and tattoos were labelled as rebellious.
