Black Codes
There were some black codes that made it illegal for African American to own or rent farms. Not all at once the congress tried to protect the rights of the south's African Americans. Radical Republicans pushed the Civil Rights Act of 1866 through congress. -
Civil Rights Act of 1866
This law gave the federal government power to get involed with state thing that they are planning on doing the upcoming year.President Johnson wetoed both bills. -
The Reconstrution Act
Congress passed the First Reconstruction Act. This act divided 10 defiant states into 5 military districts. A couple of states have a new form of government than some other states and they have different laws than other states. -
14th amendment
The thirdteenth amendment had ended slavery. Some other part in the fourteenth amendment said no state could take a person's life, liberty, or property. Everyone was titled to there laws that they had. -
15th amendment
Most southern states had rejoind the union. Most african americans voters suppoted grant. They believed in having laws to go by.
