    Benjamin Harris published Publick Occurences Both Foreign and Domestick, the first newspaper in the American Colonies even though only one edition was published before it was surpressed by the government.

    The first American magazines were published in 1741. Philadelphia printers Andrew Bradford and Benjamin Franklin—who owned rivaling newspapers—both raced to publish the first American magazine.

    In 1879 Ferdinand Braun, a German physicist invented the earliest version of the electronic television. This is known as the Braun tube.

    Marconi first invented the radio in 1897 but he was not granted the patent until 1904. Once the patent had been granted to him, a company called "British Marconi" was established and began communications between coast radio stations and ships at sea.

    In 1935 AEG released the first reel to reel tape recorder with the name magnetophon by Fritz Pfleumer. The tape recorder began to take off during the 1950's and mass production began in 1964 in Hanover, Germany. Pre-recorded music cassettes were launched in Europe in 1965 by the Mercury Record Company
