Printing Press/ Books Invented
Around the year 1455 the printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg. The Catholic church used this to print bibles and the Catholic Encyclopedia. -
Newspaper is Born
Benjamin Harris published the first newspaper called "Publick Occurrences" in Boston
It was quickly shut down due to his lack of permission and accusations that the govenor had messed around with his daughter-in-law.

Edouard-Leon Scott De Martinville invents the Phonautograph for the visual study of sound. It can record sound but cannot play it back -
Phonograph/Telephone
Thomas Edison (&all of his apprentices that he stole ideas from) introduce the phonograph that can record and playback sounds. Gateway to modern recording and also communications due to the fact that the telephone was also invented right around this time. -

William Dickson introduces the moving picture. The first motion picture but these movies had no sound. -

First social media site
A virtual reunion site called 'classmates.com' which inspired later platforms like MySpace and Facebook. Still has 57 million registered users to date. -
Social Media Explosion
Between 2003-2010 the popular social media platforms we know today came to be in this order: MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and snapchat. There are many related sites to these that have also come to be in the last 6 years and will continue to grow and change.
