    On this day, Malala Yousafzai was born in the Swat Valley, Mingora, Pakistan. Her father almost instantly put her name on the family register which was uncommon due to domination of men in Afghanistan.

    Advocate for Girl's Education

    Throughout Malala's early life, she was always searching for equality. It was in her blood, her father is an anti-taliban activist. She spoke out for girl's education and as a result was targeted by the Taliban. She has been fighting for girl's rights all her life and will continue to do that.
  • Girl's Schools were being blown up

    After the military failed to take back the swat valley, the Taliban began to lash out. They started to take out girl's schools because it was supposedly against islamic law.
  • First Appearance

    Ziauddin, Malala's father took Malala to Peshawar (the province's capital) to give a speech to the national media. It was titled, "How Dare the Taliban Take Away My Basic Right to an Education." She was 11.
  • Blogging for the BBC

    Malala began blogging for BBC about the constant threat of the Taliban denying her of her education. She stepped up instead of another girl whose parents rejected the offer. This later prooved to be fatal after her identity was declassified. The Tabliban also announced on radio that on January 15th, girl's schools would be closed

    Girl's schooled are closed or are to face the threat of a Taliban attack.
  • Taliban call a ceasefire

    The Taliban call a ceasefire with the military as long as Islamic law is imposed.
  • Interviewed on national Television

    25 million people tuned in as famous television personality Hamid Mir interviewed her about her struggle with the Taliban.
  • Ceasefire ends

    The ceasefire is broken, millions of people from Swat valley flee. Malala and her family are split up many miles from eachother.
  • Malala's family returns to the Swat Valley

    After being seperated for months, the family returns home to the Swat Valley and to their school.
  • Reveal of BBC blogging

    Notoriety towards the family had been reduced so they revealed that Malala had been informing the BBC about life in Swat Valley. Shortly after death threats towards the family are issued.
  • Nominated for Children's Peace Prize

    Desmond Tutu nominated Malala for the children's peace prize and she was subsequently a runner up. She quickly becomes a celebrity in Pakistan.
  • National Youth Peace Prize

    Malala won the youth peace prize and it was later renamed after her.
  • Shot by the Taliban

    Because she had notoriety among the Taliban, she was targeted. She was having a massive influence on the people around her and after her survival, she was further able to speak about female rights to a broader audience. The men boarded the school bus she was on demanding for Malala. Her friends not knowing the nature of the situation looked at her. 3 shots were fired and in clear view of many other children. Malala miraculously survived.
  • Transferred to a hospital in the UK

    After her condition was relatively stable again, she was flown to the UK through Abu Dhabi. They took out a big chunk of bone from her skull to lessen the swelling and she was in deprerate need of a replacement. The hospital was used mainly for injured english soldiers. Because of the angle she was sitting, the bullet ricocheted off her brain and stopped in her shoulder.

    Ever since Malala was shot, she has been living in the UK. She is protected from the Taliban and has a secure education.
  • Came out of Medically Induced Coma

    Malala had woken up from her medically induced coma. Although she was not totally concious, she seemed to have control over all limbs.
  • Called Ayesha Mir to Tell Her to Stay Strong

    Ayesha Mir became traumatised after a shrapnel bomb was found under the family car. Most people suspected it was for her father (Hamid Mir, television personality) who regularly spoke out against the Taliban's actions. Malala called her and told her to "be strong." She told her that "You cannot give up." Her inspirational call gave Ayesha confidence and the people of Pakistan.
  • Malala's Fund for Children's Education

    UNESCO and Pakistan came together to fund a $10 million dollar operation for children's education in Pakistan under Malala's name.
  • Runner-Up for TIME's Person of the Year

    Malala's efforts throughout her whole life, have made her a hero amongst everyone throughout the world. The Taliban nearly killed her, but it also gave her a voice to spread her message. She will, for as long as she lives, be inspiration to women and girls across the world. As a result, she was nominated for person of the year in TIME Magazine's Person of the Year.
  • Nobel Prize nomination

    Malala was nominatedin 2013 (with no specific date) for the Nobel Peace Prize. Many people were worried about the way she might have handled the success and attention of the award and as a result wasn't a winner. She was the youngest nominee ever.
  • Published Book

    Malala Published a book titled: I am Malala about her life and recovery after the Tabliban attempted to assasinate her.
