    These are my major events that are in my view the most significant to the Civil Rights Era.
  • Jackie Robison Joins The Dodgers

    Jackie Robison Joins The Dodgers
    was an American baseball player who became the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball. Robinson broke the baseball color line when the Dodgers started him at first base on April 15, 1947. As the first major league team to play a black man since the 1880s, the Dodgers ended racial segregation that had send black players to the black leagues for six decades. Robinson's character and talent challenged the views and become a major reason for a Civil Rights movement later in time.
  • Murder of Emmet Till

    Murder of Emmet Till
    The murder of emmet till was cause beause of emmet whistling to woman and then a couple of white men beat him to death and wrere acuitted in their trial and this trial was shown alot by the media and this became a pivotal event motivating the African-American Civil Rights Movement.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    The Freedom Riders challenged racial segregation by riding interstate buses in the South in mixed racial groups to challenge local laws or customs that enforced segregation in seating. The Freedom Rides, and the violent reactions they provoked, allow the start of the American Civil Rights Movement. They cause national attention to the disregard for the federal law and the local violence used to enforce segregation in the southern United States. many of the Riders were beaten by the police
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    The March on Washington called for civil and economic rights for African Americans. It took place in Washington, D.C were Thousands of Americans of all races headed to Washington . an this is were Martin Luther King, Jr delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech in which he called for an end to racial segregation
  • 24th Amendment passes

    24th Amendment passes
    prohibits both Congress and the states from conditioning the right to vote in federal elections on payment of a poll tax or other types of tax.Poll taxes appeared in southern states after Reconstruction as a measure to prevent African Americans from voting, and had been held to be constitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States in which till the 24th amendment pass was just a way to keep african americans from voting.

    is a landmark piece of civil rights legislation in the United States that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. It ended unequal application of voter registration requirements and racial segregation in schools, at the workplace and by facilities that served the general public .
  • Selma March

    Selma March
    After the murder of Jimmie Lee Jackson during the voter registration drive by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee it was decided to for the need for a federal registration law. With the help of Martin Luther King and Ralph David Abernathy of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, leaders of the SCCC organised a protest march from Selma to the state capitol building in Montgomery, Alabama. which involved 3 different marches
  • Voting Rights Act

    Voting Rights Act
    A major piece of federal legislation in the United States that prohibits discrimination in voting. It was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson during the era of the American Civil Rights Movement, and Congress later amended the Act five times to expand its protections. Designed to enforce the voting rights guaranteed by the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution. this allow African Americans to vote.
  • Black Panthers Founded

    Black Panthers Founded
    was a black revolutionary socialist organization active in the United States from 1966 until 1982. The Black Panther Party achieved national and international regconition through its involvement in the Black Power movement and U.S. politics of the 1960s and 1970s. which will even give more power to the Civil Rights movement.
  • MLK Assassinated

    MLK Assassinated
    was an American activist, and prominent leader of the African-American civil rights movement and Nobel Peace Prize winner who became known for his advancement of civil rights by using civil disobedience. He was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday April 4, 1968, at the age of 39 by james earl ray which was a major loss for society but will help advance the civil rights movement even more.
