    Latin for "Great Charter", and was between Medieval England and King John. Was an attempt to stop a king of abusing his power with the people of England suffering.
  • Jamestown Settled

    Jamestown Settled
    Colonist's sailed in Jamestown Island and built a fort on the banks of James River in Virginia.
  • Mayflower Compact written

    Mayflower Compact written
    First written agreement by the new colonist's or pilgrims of the Plymouth colony because of earlier settlers failing due to the lack of government. Included fair and equal laws for the good of all settlers.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    An act passed by Parliament to limit the power of the monarch.
  • Petition of Right

    Petition of Right
    A statement of civil liberties sent by the English Parliament to Charles I.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    Albany Plan of Union
    The exact date is unknown. It was Benjamin Franklin's attempt to unify all 13 colonies under one single government, but unfortunately never went through.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Passed by British Parliament and imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of paper they used.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A riot during which British soldiers killed 5 civilians, the riot helped spark rebellion of the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    It was the colonist's against the British Government in Boston. The British government controlled the tea that came into the colonies and after officials refused to return 3 shiploads of taxed tea, a group of colonists boarded the ship and destroyed it by throwing it into the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Laws or punishments that King George III put on the colonies for dumping the tea into the harbor during the Boston Tea Party
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    Lasted until October 26, 1774. Was held because colonists were very upset anout the Intolerable Acts and the taxes. Was held to discuss unfair treatment from Britain, what relationship the colonies should have with Britain, and what colonists' rights should be. The first meeting was to boycott British goods.

    The American Revolution began because of colonist's still wanting their freedom from Britain. After this revolution America was completely broken free and created the United States of America. Began with a single shot in Lexington referred to as the "shot heard around the world"

    Meeting at the State House in Phildelphia and it established the militia as the Continental Armry to represent the 13 states. During this meeting, George Washington was elected as Commander in Chief of the army.

    Considered to be the original constitution of the United States of America that was later replaced with the U.S Constitution in 1789. It did not go into full affect until March 1, 1781

    Lasted until 1787. Multiple attacks led Daniel Shay and hardworking farmers against the courthouses because of the denial to use paper money to prevent forclosure on lands.
