Major Events Between 1938 and 1941

  • Germany's Anschluss with Austria

    This was the union of Germany and Austria. Austrian Chancellor Kurt von Schuschnigg only agreed to this after he was bullied by Hitler in a meeting and then appointed a Nazi minister of police.
  • The Munich Pact

    Was an agreement permitting the Nazi German annexation of Czechoslovakia's Sudetenland. The Sudetenlands were areas along Czech borders.
  • Germany's Annexation of the Sudetenland

    Chamberlain convinced Hitler to host a multi-power conference to determine the Sudetenland issue. As Hitler barred Czechoslovakian representation to this meeting, Chamberlain cabled Beneš, promising that the United Kingdom had Czechoslovakia's best interest in mind. This only lasted about a month.
  • The Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact

    Was a pact made with the Soviets so that Hitler could aviod a two front war. This was part of the reason that Germany lost in the first World War I
  • Hitler's Annexation of Czechoslovakia

    The German Wehrmacht which was a defense froce moved into Czechoslovakia region and Hitler proclaimed Bohemia and Moravia the Protectorate. Hitler remained in power in this area untill the surrender of Germany in World War II.
  • Germany's Invasion of Poland

    The Polish army was defeated in week after being weakend by the bombing or blitzkrieg and this particular invasion basically started World War II. He was afraid at first but was assured knowing that Britian and France had weak and indecisive leaders.
  • The Phony War

    His war occured after the fall of Poland. It's was called the Phony war because it put many French and British citizens into a false sense of security. It was a false sense of security becasuse out of nowhere in the preceding year Hitlar launched an invasion.
  • The Fall of France

    Italy entered the war on the side of Germany and invaded France from the south as the Germans closed in on Paris from the north. By 1-25-40 Hitler handed French officers his terms of surrender. Germans would occupy the northern part of France
  • The Miracle at Dunkirk

    Was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, by Allied forces. The emergency called in all the ships including a 15 foot fishing boat.
  • The Battle of Britain

    Was the German air force's attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF from July to September 1940. Their ultimate failure was one of the turning points of World War Two and prevented Germany from invading Britain.
