Mae Jemison's life By teacherstex Oct 17, 1956 Mae Jemison was born in Alabama. 1973 She attended from stanford university after graduating from high school. 1981 She graduated from Cornell with a Doctorate in Medicine. 1982 She practised general medecine as an intern. 1983 She joined the Peace Corps as a medical officer for two years in Africa. 1985 She applied at NASA for the first time but got refused. 1987 She applied again and got chosen (15 chosen over 2000). 1987 She trained with NASA and worked on projects at the Kennedy Space Center Sep 28, 1989 She joined the STS-47 as a first mission. Sep 12, 1992 She went into space on the space shuttle Endeavor. 1993 She left NASA after serving as an astronaut for six years. 1993 She began teaching environmental studies at Dartmouth College and directed the Jemison Institute. 1994 She created an international space camp for students called The Earth We Share (TEWS).
