Mae Jemison's life

  • Mae Jemison was born in Alabama.

  • She attended from stanford university after graduating from high school.

  • She graduated from Cornell with a Doctorate in Medicine.

  • She practised general medecine as an intern.

  • She joined the Peace Corps as a medical officer for two years in Africa.

  • She applied at NASA for the first time but got refused.

  • She applied again and got chosen (15 chosen over 2000).

  • She trained with NASA and worked on projects at the Kennedy Space Center

  • She joined the STS-47 as a first mission.

  • She went into space on the space shuttle Endeavor.

  • She left NASA after serving as an astronaut for six years.

  • She began teaching environmental studies at Dartmouth College and directed the Jemison Institute.

  • She created an international space camp for students called The Earth We Share (TEWS).
