Her minor toothache turned into a massive pain in her jaw which was caused by a lump that had fluid in it and had to be drained. This was the first surgery she had. She was scheduled an emergency surgery.

She had a toothache that worsened steadily and was hit in the jaw with a kickball the day before. They found out she had a dental cyst which they removed in surgery.

Everyone knew Lucy and her story and was considered the school mascot.

What they did was put a balloon in her jaw and and was blown up a little more everyday. The point of this was to make sure she had enough skin to cover the bone graft.
