William Gerald Golding was born in Cornwell England. His parents, Mildred and Alex. His father was a schoolmaster and his mother foughht for womens's right to vote.

At age 12 , William attempted to write his first novel but did not successfully. After primary school he went to college , his father wanted him to be a scientist but he wanted to study English Literature.

After college William decided to follow his father's footsteps and teach English and Philosophy.Teaching 'unruly' boys inspired William to write the novel "Lord of the Flies."

Golding joined the Royal Navy to fight in WWII.During his time in the war ,William fought battleships, fended off submarines and planes, and even placed in command of a rocket-launching craft

After 21 rejections,"Lord of the Flies" was published. Peter Brooke later made a film and two decades later at the age of 73 William won Nobel Prize for Literature.Soon the film was recreated.

On June 19, 1993, Golding died of a heart attack in Perranarworthal, Cornwall. After Golding died, his completed manuscript for "The Double Tongue" was published posthumously.
