Murasaki Shikibu gets married to her father's friend Fujiwara no Nobutaka who was a much older second cousin.
He descended from the same branch of the Fujiwara clan and he was a court functionary and bureaucrat at the Ministry of Ceremonials. -
Murasaki Shikibu starts her book the tale of genji which is known as the first classic novel.
According to her legend Murasaki visited Ishiyama-dera at Lake Biwa, where it is said she was inspired to write The Tale of Genji on a soothing August night while looking at the bright glistening moon.
Some also believe she may have been commissioned to write the story and may have known or heard about an exiled courtier in a similar position to her story's protagonist, Genji. -

In her early to mid to late-thirties Murasaki Shikibu became a nyōbō aka a lady in waiting for Michinaga.
it is believed that Michinaga wanted to have Murasaki at court to educate his daughter Shōshi.
it is also believed that Michinaga wanted Murasaki because of her reputation as an author and poet. -
When Emperor Ichijō died in 1011 Shōshi retired from the Imperial Palace to live in a Fujiwara mansion in Biwa and it is commonly believed that she accompanied by Murasaki.
