William and Clark and their crew met with Meriweather Lewis and began traveling up the Missori wuth a 55 feet keelboat and 2 other smaller pirogues.

A group of Missori and Oto indians came to the expedition camp and gave and recived gifts with inhabitants of the camp.

On this day the first US soldier died west of the Mississippi dies assumably from appendicitis,he is the only member of the group to die on the trip.

At somepoint between Oct 1st and Dec 20 the group expirienced their first snowfall and also arrived at their home for the winter which was the Mandan tribes village.

At some point during the time they met their interpreter Saceqawea, an Indian and her family who would continue to travel with them.

On April 7th the group finally starting going weastward.

On this day Lewis saw the Great Falls Of The Mississipi River, he was the first white man to do so.While he was there he discovered its was not on but five seperate falls which will in turn make them much harder to travel thru them.

By this date they had arrived at a place called the Snake River before reaching the Columbia river sevrel days later.While at Snake River they socialized with indians who inhabited the riverbank.

On this day the corps started to move back up the Columbia River,going up the river and much more difficult than going down.The currents were stronger and more difficult to manuver and the crew often had to porage the falls.

On this day the Corps returned home to St.Louis and were welcomed home by 1000 people, some perfomring gunfire salutes.

On November 7th Clark belived they had arrived in the pacific when in fact they were quite a distance away, around 20 miles around Columbias estuary.An estuary which is where the tide meets the stream or the tidal mouth of a klarge river.
