The Lewis and Clark expedition set out on May 20th, 1804. They were in search for the Pacific Ocean. They traveled 600 miles by the end of July.

The Indians became threatening so Clark drew his sword and both sides pulled back. They continued to head up the river.

Lewis and Clark reached the Mandan tribe's villages four days after the first snowfall. They planned to spend the winter there. Food supplies started to become scarce.

Lewis saw the mountains for the first time. After a long journey he finally saw the Rocky Mountains and was filled with joy and excitement.

Lewis was the first white man to see the Great Falls of the Missouri River. Lewis discovered that there were five seperate falls and that they went on for 12 miles.

Clark thought he had reached the Pacific Ocean but they were still 20 miles away from the coast. By the middle of November Lewis and Clark made it to the Pacific.

It was time for the return home. They were ready to trace their steps and head back across the continent.

Lewis and Clark decided to go their separate ways in order to eplore the Louisiana Territory.

Lewix and his group broke camp. They crossed the Continental Divide and descended from the mountains near the Great Falls.

It took two years, four months and ten days since they had left. One thousand people greeted the returned Corps.
