    Lewis and Clark attend ceremony of the transfer of louisianna from France to the U.S. secretly perparing for the investagtive expedition.

    Expedition offically statred!
    The expedtition finally starts to push off after a long perparing time, they leave from Camp Dubios "under gentle breeze" as Clark writes to Lewis (Who was in St,Lewis and jions the group ina few days.) With nearly 4 dozen men adn a 55ft long and 8ft wide boat that could carry more than 10 tons.
  • Nearing Sioux Tribe

    Nearing Sioux Tribe
    The joy of nearing the Sioux Tribe didn't last long, Sargent Charles Jones died of what they think now was a burst appendix. They burried Jones at Floyd's bluff and stream naming the bluff and stream after him hononering him. They hade a great meeting with Yanket Sioux, who egerly accepted becomeing american. It was said that every time a baby was born Lewis wrapped him in an American flag and claimed him American.

    Sargent Charles Floyde, became ill with what they think is burst appendix and died in Iowa, Souix City. Being the first man to die on expedition they name the hill where he was buried Floyde's Hill. Floyde's hill and stream were named after him to give him honor.
  • Lewis and Clark at Fort Mandan

     Lewis and Clark at Fort Mandan
    North of Bismark, Dakota, the expedition stumbled upon the earth lodged of the Mandans and Hidatsas. About 4,500 people lived in these villages and were sread out over the country in differnt villages. Lewis and Clark Built Fort Mandan across the river from them. I'm sure they got along good because lewis and clark didn't die there.

    At 45 degrees below zero, Clark found it to be colder than he had ever experienced in the US before. Instead of traveling in the freezing weather and risk losing men or getting sick they spend the winter at Fort Mandan.

    On Febuary 11th, Jean Baptiste was born. Lewis helped her through the birth and gave her a potion to speed up the procedure made from crushed rattlesnake rings.
  • Grizzly's arn't that bad... Right?

    Lewis and Clark underestimated the feriosity of the grizzly bear, not beliveing the Indians that the bear was the dealiest animal. When the men came to yellow stone river they can ran into more than one grizzly bear and were chased away several times. Finding the grizzlies almost impossible to kill all they could do was run away. This made traveling through yellow stone area difficult and slow.

    In Missouri, Clark and Lewis found a Shoshone tribe and wanted to bargin for horses, known that the trails would get rougher and that they could cover more distance. Sacageawea is brought to help translate. Shockingly the chief is her brother, and is willing to give them horses and a guide... no wonder they named the cite 'Camp Fortune'!

    On Christmas day the expedition crew spends the day at it's new fort, Fort Clastsop. The name was honoring the Indian tribe close by, They gave the indians hankerchiefs and the last of thier tabacco supply (with only few grumbles from the expedition men.) For a peace offering.

    Running out of wiskey and tabbaco didn't make the men very happy... as a substitute they used carb tree bark to suck and chew on.

    Coming across eight Blackfeet warriors the explore's camp together very cautiously. Lewis wakes up to find them stealing there horses and weapons! They shoot two Blackfeet, the rest ran away. Fearing they would come back with a larger group they ran the horses for 24 hours straight.

    Today in Idaho, There will be a lockin at church. Also today is space day for the world... good job Neil Armstrong! And There is a decreasing in moose tags in Northern Idaho.
