    On 21 May 1804, Lewis and Clark started their first expedition.
    They had a 55 foot keelboat and two smaller pirogues carry some 40 members of the expedition, a newfoundland dog, and supplies.
  • Sacagawea

    20 Oct 1804, Lewis and Clark meet a French- Canadian interpreter and his young Indian wife, Sacagawea. Lewis and Clark hired them into the Corps Discovery group as interpreters.

    11 Feb 1805, Sacagawea was pregnant when she helped Lewis and Clark for the journy. On feb 11 she gave birth to her on son and named it Pompy. Clark named her son Pompy as a nickname
  • The Grizzly Bear

    29 Apr 1805, As they went west Lewis and Clark was warned by indians not to meet a Grizzly Bear. Lewis & Clark thought the animal could be easily killed. This was until the crew was attacked by a pair of Grizzly bears, putting Lewis in danger.

    17 Aug 1805, When the Corps Discovery group reach the Rocky Mountains. Lewis discovers a village of Shoshones and tries to get horses. Soon, Lewis and Clark noticed that tribe cheif was the brother of Sacagewea. They buy 29 horses and they also hire a Shoshone guide named Old Toby.

    6 Nov 1805, The crew had now made its way down Clearwater river and were traveling down the Columbia river. There, the crew had met tribes that lived along the river. Clark thought he they had gotten to the Pacific, but it was just the river. Storms held the crew for weeks, but finally they made it to the Ocean.

    9 Feb 1806, The expedition was close to return, but they had to leave at a certain time because they needed the mountains to be without snow. Also needed to get to the missouri river before it froze. The crew got 5 boats and headed out for the return home.
  • Seperates

    Seperates
    3 Jul 1806, the group breaks into smaller groups in order to explore more of the Louisiana Territory. Clark and his group head down the Yellowstone River, while Lewis takes the shortcut to the Great Falls, and then travels north along the Marias River.

    23 Sep 1806, They finaly finished ther journy by covering about 80 miles a day. They had met traders who told them that many thought the crew was dead. They were greeted with a welcome from the people of St. Louis
