Legacy of WWII project

  • Period: to

    Japanese Internment

Throughout the years prior to WWII, the Japanese struggled in the United States. When Pearl Harbor happened, the US feared the Japanese were spies in their own country. Therefore, to prevent another attack, the US created Internment camps for the Japanese, similar to Hitler's actions in the Holocaust. This is a significant event because it did not fully solve the conflict between the Japanese and the US even with the atomic bomb.
  • Period: to

    Rise of Dictators in WWII

Before WWII, Mussolini, the leader of the Italy was the first of the four major dictators rise to power. This was followed by Stalin, the leader of Russia. Then, Hitler rose to power in Germany and then Tojo rose in Japan. These are all important events because they dictated majority of the war.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression
The Great Depression occurred when the stock market crashed. Many people lost their jobs which led to them losing their way of living. With the stock market crashing, Hitler was able to take advantage of the people in Germany. I used this as a significant event because this is how Hitler rose to power leading up to WWII.
  • Period: to

    The Holocaust

The Holocaust was a genocide targeting mainly Jews but also others in "outcast." Hitler led the Holocaust with his Nazi army because his main goal was to eliminate as many Jews as possible. This is a very significant event because it was occurring before and during WWII and many innocent lives were taken for no reason. It ended when the US liberated the camps after Hitler's death.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is the day when the Japanese surprise attacked the US naval base located in Hawaii. This is a very significant event because this is what led the US declaring war against Japan. In this moment, the US became apart of WWII.
  • D-Day

    D-Day
D-Day is the day in WWII where the Allied Forces invaded the beaches in Normandy. Despite there being 5 beaches that the invasion occurred on, Omaha beach was the main beach that was affected. It was the bloodiest beach out of the 5 in the battle. This event is significant because the Allied Forces began to attack Germany next.
  • Truman's Presidency

    Truman's Presidency
After Roosevelt passed away, Harry Truman was the next president. In fact, Truman is the one who decided to drop the two atomic bombs on Japan. Although it took a lot of deciding, he finally came to the resolution of dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. This is a significant event because this is what ended the war by Japan surrendering.
  • Period: to

    The Atomic Bomb

The atomic bomb was the event that ended the war between the Japanese in the US. Two bombs were dropped between August 6th and August 9th. This was a surprise to the Japanese that destroyed their home. This was important because it was the end to the Japanese in WWII and the US had victory.
