Belladonna, even though she is a white witch, knows she has to win the contest because she is madly in love with Arriman. As she contemplates how to perform a black-magic trick, she meets Terence and his pet worm, Rover. As soon as Bellladonna touches Rover, she is able to perform black magic, and knows he must be her familiar. Belladonna couldn't possibly take Rover away from Terence, so she invites him to come along to the contest. Belladonna draws to go last. Pages 93-184, total= 1485 -
Chapter 17-End, 65 pages
Belladonna and Terrence watch the other witch's tricks. She is worried and has him watch Rover, but Rover still gets stolen. Terrence hires an actor to secretly help Belladona cheat and pretend to do the trick of rising a ghost from the dead. The trick worked, and Belladonna won the contest, but they find that the actor never showed. Terrence turns out to be the black wizard helping Belladonna all along. He is to be the new wizard, taking over from Arriman. Pages 184- 249, total=1550
