    The Soviet Union and America split Korean in two at the 38 parallel. They are divided for administrative purposes.
  • Japanses Empire falls

    The Japanses government is overthrown. They turn to Communism to support their country.
  • North Korean troops invade South Korea.

    North Korean troops invade South Korea.
    The communist North invades the democratic South in the early morning.The South was ill prepared for the invasion and in a couple months the North had successfully reached the Southern capital of Seoul.
  • United States turns to United Nations for advice.

    United States turns to United Nations for advice.
    Not wanting to get involved with the Korean war, the US turns to the United Nations for help. They ask that they send troops to Korea, lead by the US. Through the start of this "forgetten war" the US and the Soviet Union fought by proxy.
  • American troops invade Korea

    General MacArthur of the US army sent two division of American troops to invade North Korea. The first of his invasions was very successfully.
  • China enters war.

    China enters the war to support the communist North. Peace talks had been ineffective and they were helping to make an advance south.
  • 1st Commonwealth division is formed.

    1st Commonwealth division is formed.
    Canadian, British, Australian, New Zealand and Indian troops form a troop envianle to the other Allies. They were a very strong force on the South side.
  • Stalemate

    Land battles reach a stalemate. Peace talks begin and last for roughly 2 years. The line between North and South remains the same near the 38 parallel.

    The Allies had total supremacy in naval power. Naval blockades were very successful.
  • Armistice

    Armistice
    North Korea and South Korea agree to a cease-fire after months of being in a stalemate. The boundary between North and South remained nearly the same as when the war started.
